Bronzed Baby Gets Ready for Open House

My daughter, Alex, has bronzed very nicely over the summer!  That girl has some highly coveted skin pigmentation!  She was super serious about getting ready for her school’s open house today.  She took a mid-afternoon shower, brushed her teeth a couple of times, requested that I braid her hair, and carefully chose an outfit to wear.  This particular tank top was first choice because of the lovely teal ribbon in the back.  She’s obsessed with ribbon right now because her mommy is obsessed with ribbon too (for reasons that shall be revealed at a later date)!

The Open Houses went really well!  We started with Christian’s Kindergarten class. Christian grinned shyly at his new teacher and then hid behind me for the rest of our introductory conversation.  I took his little hand and walked him around the classroom taking in the sights.  Once Christian saw that his teacher had stuffed monkeys and gorillas sitting around the room, he was right at home!  Gregg and I started collecting stuffed monkeys for Christian when he was a baby, so he has a variety of chimps and gorillas hanging out in his bedroom.  I signed up for conferences while Christian picked a card from the “wish list” – he is now in charge of bringing a box of Q-Tips on the first day of school!

Alex’s classroom was next; thankfully, she and Christian will be at the same school this year!  Immediately, we saw two familiar faces, one girl from last year’s class, Joyleen, and Alex’s boyfriend, Dylan (they’ve been together since preschool, and yes, they do hold hands…  Warning:  DON’T ask her dad how he feels about this!)!  Alex’s teacher was very organized with her welcome presentation – she had even printed out two desk tags for Alex – one that said Alexandria on it and one that said Alex, because she wasn’t sure which name Alex would prefer to use.  I’m going to get along with this teacher famously!  I signed up for conferences while Alex decided what her favorite snack is – she decided on green grapes, so she’s in charge of bringing some grapes to share during the first week of school!

Ben’s classroom open house was last, and required a short drive to a different building.  First thing, Ben smelled popcorn before we even entered the building, so his mind was on one thing: POPCORN!  We unpacked his school supplies, chatted with his new teacher, and ran into a couple of fellow cub scouts.  One of Ben’s Scout buddies, Bryce, was just transferred to our school district.  So, the counselor purposely put the boys in the same class to help Bryce adjust, which I think will be nice for both boys.  There were some other familiar faces in the classroom as well – a couple of girls ran up to Ben giggling, “We’re in the same class again!  We found your desk!”  After getting things settled in Ben’s classroom, we headed straight for the cafeteria to get some mouth watering popcorn!

I left the schools this evening, feeling slightly sweaty from toting plastic bags FULL of school supplies…, but also feeling serene and satisfied from seeing all of the familiar faces and meeting all of the new teachers – I think it’s going to be a WONDERFUL year!

And, one more photo of my bronzed baby with one of my furry kids, Maddie Mae!
