It’s Valentine’s Day! Whether you love it or you loathe it, the Hallmark Holiday of Love has arrived! I tend to love valentines day for the simple reason that we are encouraged to shower even more love and attention onto the special ones in our lives. It’s all very dreamy and romantic to receive tokens of affection from the person who holds your heart!
My Hubbs has held my heart for over a decade now – WOW!!! He makes me feel special on a daily basis, but on valentines day, there’s usually a little extra gravy! Historically, my Hubbs has sent flowers, taken me out on a special date, written and played songs for me on his guitar, and/or written poetry for me.
On our first ever valentines day, I was stuck at work and had experienced some ex-boyfriend drama… As soon as I was able, I took off and drove to Gregg’ apartment, having already talked to him on the phone about my crummy night. I remember it like it was yesterday: Gregg opened his apartment door and spread his arms WIDE OPEN to give me the biggest, best bear hug EVER! The comfort that he provided meant the world to me; I knew that he was a keeper! I didn’t want to leave the hug, but eventually, Gregg told me to close my eyes because he had a surprise for me. Once led inside and told to open my eyes, I saw a silver photo frame with a poem inside and a single red rose leaning up against the frame. I read the poem and got goose bumps – it was so romantic and personal and straight from the heart. I fell in love with Gregg that night, and have loved him ever since!
Wedding Day 05/20/2000
Fast forward to last year’s valentines day: Gregg ordered orange roses from a florist because he knew that orange was my favorite splash of color around the house; it’s a very happy color! He wrote down characteristics of the color orange, that he felt matched my personality, to include on the card. Talk about noticing the details and putting a creative spin on things! I still think he’s a keeper!
Vow Renewal 05/20/2012
This year, we’ve decided to put a creative spin on valentines for the kids. In lieu, of a bunch of candy or plastic filler toys that will break and end up in the trash, we’re sending them on a Valentines Hunt!!! Gregg and I have each written down 5 things that we love about each of our kids. So, in total, we have 30 things written down on post-it notes. This afternoon, we’ll hide the post-it’s and send the kids hunting for them. It’s like an easter egg hunt (only still no candy) and the prize for finding all of your love post-it’s is cold, hard cash. “Mommy and daddy love you! These are several of the reasons why! Now, go buy yourself something nice!”

And, I received a Love Post-It on my laptop this morning from the Hubbs. He said that there may be more of them delivered throughout the day….! Sweet!!!
Going to spend the rest of my day whispering sweet nothings into my husband’s ear… Hope you ALL enjoy this holiday whether you’re sharing it with a lover/ a loved one/or alone with a box of chocolates! Valentines day is an excuse to hug, kiss, eat chocolate, and love a little extra!
HAPPY HEART DAY!!!!!
