The Hubbs and I were celebrating my birthday (one day early, no kids) on a date! Our hotel for the evening was in Old Town, so after checking in, we decided to head out and take a leisurely walk along the river bank. Turns out, Wichita’s River Festival had just begun and there were people everywhere: walking, sitting, bike riding, river boating, zip lining, jet skiing (with their dogs!), and from the looks of it, helicopter riding.
It was a bustling, celebratory scene as the people of Wichita gathered together along the Arkansas. And praise the Lord that there was actually water in the river, signs of recovery from the drought!!! The Hubbs and I walked happily, hand-in-hand through the crowds. Once Gregg saw the helicopter, our leisurely walk became a brisk treasure hunt though, as we began searching for the makeshift helipad where the ‘copter would land.
We struck gold and followed the signs to the helicopter rides! My Hubbs has always fantasized about flying; if he could be a pilot or a superhero, then he’d be happy. It was cute seeing his face light up with excitement at the prospect of spending some time up in the air!
Views from above…
We saw the bright blue roof over Century II, Lawrence Dumont Stadium, a parking lot carnival, and then, as we were coming in for a landing, we saw Exploration Place – and can anyone see the Tyrannosaurus Rex standing guard at the building? Look to the left of the picture (it looks so tiny from our perspective)!
My handsome man videotaping our flight on his phone. Thanks baby, for my first ever aerial photo shoot! It was an amazing experience! You can watch my husband’s video capture, here! It’s really loud, so turn your speakers down!
HAPPY to take a helicopter ride with my Hubbs for my birthday!!!
